Piles of apple guts
the Cider Press

The day started with a typical October morning, cloudy, drizzly, crisp clean air and beautiful fall colors everywhere. We have been planning to spend our Saturday having fun together and the autumn weather wasn't about to stop us. We drove to the very small town of Marcus Washington (which I am convinced is a haven for hippies). Marcus has one claim to fame and that is the once a year Ciderfest. The first thing that we saw was the cider press a cool contraption that we enjoyed watching them turn bushels of apples into gallons of cider and piles of apple pulp. we then bought some of the cider and the first thing I noticed was the warning label on the front because it wasn't pasteurized. Yummy! But it was very good and pretty famous in these parts. Then the parade came through town. Whoopie! It was a tiny little thing but the little Shriner cars were there and they are my favorite. They shut down the highway to run the parade(the highway is a tiny little two lane road that runs straight through Marcus.) The whole thing took fifteen minutes from the small scout troop to the last firetruck. Then we went from booth to booth checking out hand made jewelry and soaps, to dried flower wreaths and hand spun yarn. It was a good way to spend our day.
